On Friday 13th may I headed to Kingscote Estate nestled in the gorgeous Sussex countryside near The Bluebell Railway. I was honored to be invited to cook for the esteemed American members of Les Dames d’Escoffier as part of their Edible London Tour. Arriving by steam train to be greeted with chilled elderflower presse and a collection of bespoke iced vanilla biscuits inspired by trains and all things British.
A stroll through the woods filled with bluebells and wild garlic set the scene for our Edwardian inspired lunch in the picturesque Kingscote Estate barn. The guests were greeted with a glass of wine from the Kingscote Estate vineyard and shown to their table surrounded by luscious countryside.
The menu included such delights as homemade raised pies, Sussex asparagus tarts along with devilled eggs and summery salads.
The second course was not to be out done by the first offering raspberry trifle, meringues, Lady’s Kisses and Gooseberry and Elderflower Cake.
A fantastic day with a truly Edwardian inspired lunch, i think it is safe to say lots of fun had by all!
